track

What is ballast? It is the crushed rock that keeps the track from moving around when trains roll down the main line.

Several suggestions are made for applying ballast to our model railroad. Starting with the materials you can buy at your local hobby shop;

  • Woodland Scenics
  • Smith and Sons
  • Arizona (Rock and Mineral?)

Add detail on how to add ballast to your track.

  • Ballast blends and sizes
    • Woodland Scenics ballast sizes
      • Fine - 0.9" - 2.9" HO Scale
      • Med - 2.9" - 4.3" HO Scale
      • Corse - 4.4" - 7.2" HO Scale
  • Prepare track (solder & paint, test run)
