A train layout is a table where we can run our model trains. The table can be a simple shelf of wood or complex structure spanning an entire basement. Think of a train layout as a stage where your trains are the players.
The picture above was taken on a layout section eight feet long and about two feet wide. The photo shows that even with a relatively small space you can achieve a lot of beauty, this is master-level construction and detail. With patience, practice and help from fellow hobbyists you can learn to build great looking models and layouts.

Modular Railroading is where many modelers get togheter to connect small sections of a layout to form a single large railroad. You typically see this style of layout at train shows.
